PDF of Taxi by Manjula Padmanabhan

In gritty, dusty Delhi, Maddy has carved a world of her own. Having left her home and high-flying job in the US, Maddy has been driving a private taxi for an all-women clientele. Dealing with difficult clients, a harridan of a landlady, and the ceaseless chaos and rage of Delhi roads, she has managed to find her calm.

Until one day Maddy finds herself unceremoniously evicted. Suddenly destitute and desperate, she is contacted by a mysterious lawyer with a promise of employment, housing and a steady income. There’s just one catch – to keep the job, she has to pretend to be a man.

Maddy soon finds herself living a double life as a chic woman in a secluded mansion and a poor driver in a chawl. Then there’s the fellow driver she meets on one of her assignments, a man she finds herself surprisingly attracted to. As Maddy struggles to keep her two lives apart, and figure out whom to trust, she is sucked deeper into the secrets of her employers, and the shadowy forces that cling to them.

Taxi takes the reader on a romp through winding Delhi streets, full of influential people pulling the strings and the nameless who get entangled. Will Maddy be able to walk the tightrope of danger and deception, and escape with her life and liberty intact? Or will both her lives be quietly snuffed out of existence?
